Alisha's Visit

Alisha came to visit me for 10 days last week. We had fun going to the park, going to a cousin's birthday party and drawing with chalk. While saving her pictures to a new file folder, it dawned on me to go ahead and journal right on one of the pictures. It turned out so cute that I must do this with all my grandchildren's pictres that I plan to put in a scrapbook. Even if I decide to not use the journaled picture, I at least have the journaling ready to write down.

Only 4.5 weeks left down here in the south. I'm excited about my up coming summer adventure. It's time to pack, organize and say goodbye. I have several projects that need to be finished up and I would like to reorganize my craft supplies. Pinterest has caused me to increase my projects list and add more stuff to my stash. It's hard to stay with one project before moving on to a new one.

Winter fading fast...

Just got back from Hilton Head Island, SC and realized I only have 8 weeks left in Alabama. Time to start making list, pile up "to take" items and count the days!!! I'm real excited about this summer. We have several changes going on and I plan to make a "Project Life" album just for my Alaska life. I've order my pages, bought my notebook and gathering ideas. I'm going to be different and use a regular sized (8.5x11) notebook with "coupon" pages. I don't have much space in Alaska and the less the better. And it's just for 22 weeks. I love checking Pinterest everyday to find new ideas. I will be posting my album here and plan to keep it up to date!!! I promise!!! Have a good day!!!

Gearing up!!

Only about 14 weeks until I return to Alaska. Being home has been quite a challenge. Not much to do around here in south Alabama. I have been catching up with friends and family. And I've been making some items to sell at the Blueberry Festival in Ketchikan this summer. So that has kept me busy.
I am really looking forward to getting back to work. It's such a beautiful place!!!

Alaska the Beautiful

It's hard to believe I've been here for 2 months. It is so beautiful here. My job everyday amazes me. I simply love it.
I've met so many nice people. I walk out of my apartment and am met with friendly people every step of the way. We are all connected. Connected by the Universe. There is so much life here. The town comes alive each morning when the cruise ships pull in. It's like an ant hill that's been disturbed. It's fun to find out where people are from and what they are looking for.
My job is so WOW!!! It's an easy job. And I travel to a place in the world that not many people get to see. It's such a peaceful place. I feel the power of my soul is refreshed everyday I go. Everyday I see it in a different way. The clouds are low, the waterfall is fuller, the sun's brighter.... each day is different. And beyond beautiful.
I recommend to anyone to come see Ketchikan, AK. Let me know when you're coming and I'll do the sunshine dance!!!

Work

We are well underway with our training. We will ride a boat out to the cannery tomorrow and do some fire training. Everybody I work with is really nice. I think it is going to be a fun summer. I got a suprise visit from my friend the other night. It was great to see him after 3 years. I've been walking the town and even went to a bar last night. Not much action on a Monday night. It was around 65 degrees today. Really nice weather the whole time I've been here. The locals are wearing shorts and tank tops. I even heard that someone went swimming. Still trying to get settled in and use to the sun going down at 9:30pm. Thank you for stopping by and I will write more later.

Stairs

Stairs, stairs and more stairs. They are all over the place. My roommate and I were invited to a party that was held at a co worker's home. It was located on the side of a mountain. I forgot my camera, sorry!!! Anyway, we hung out there for a couple of hours then headed to a bar. We walked!!!! Down about 4 or more flights of stairs. I'm thinking hey....If we are walking down this many stairs.....it means we'll have to walk up this many stairs coming back. I knew then it wasn't good. So off we go down the road (also downhill). We come to the bar. It's called The Hole in the Wall. Should have been called In The Hole. The roof was at the same level as the road we'd just walked. Oh my, more stairs. So down we go. This bar is smaller than my mother's bedroom. There are 4 people there. Well, it was fun. We had a good time and didn't stay too very long. Jeremy, the driver of the car, was kind enough to leave me and another co worker at the bottom of the hill while he fetched the car. The up hill walk from the bar was a bear. In fact I was wishing I'd be attacked by a bear so I'd get a nice dry warm ride into town. Oh yes, it was raining. Just a little misty. Enough to give you a nice cough. When we got back to town, we had to park a few blocks over from our apartment. And guess what....more stairs. But going down. I'm going to take a pic of that just so you can see. Oh did I tell you that we had fun. We really did and I did it and won't feel the need to do it again. But wish I'd had the camera so I could share the wonderful view. It's an island, I'm sure I will get back that way at some point within the next 5 months. Thanks for stopping by. Good Night!!

Finally Here

Well, I'm here. The flight was long and tiring. Wish there was an easier and faster way to get here. But I arrived at last. Nicki from work picked me up at the airport. The airport is located on an island next to Ketchikan. So we took the ferry across. Nicki showed me where I'd be working then took me to my apartment. I have a nice apartment that I will be sharing with one other girl. She is to arrive today or tomorrow. I have my own room. It's all small but clean and up to date. I had dinner at a cafe and then walked around town. I finally pooped out and headed home. It was still daylight at 8:00. It looked more like 4:00 outside. I was told that it got dark around 11pm. I don't know what time it got dark but I woke up at some point and it was darkish. I need to get some curtains.
This morning I woke up at 4:30...7:30 my old time. But I was still so tired and was able to fall back asleep and wake at 9. It seems that the time here goes by a lot slower. I found the only thing freezing here is the water in the bathroom. Yikes. I about froze my fingers off.
I went exploring this morning. I found a coffee shop. Yeah!!! I can't remember the name. I had a latte and a bagel. I walked down to the docks and found a nice gift shop with some shirts on sale. Had to get my little girls one. Thought they might go up next week when the cruise ships start coming in. I met a nice lady that likes to talk!!!! I heard all about her snow experiences. She is a native and has lived here all her life. Real nice lady and nice to talk to......ok listen to.
I'm about to finish up here at Annabelle's (great lunch) and do my pre-work stuff. Then I will explore more of Ketchikan. I'll write more later.
